Raja Permaisuri Agong Graces The Launch Of EPF’s Health Withdrawal For Fertility Treatment

New facility aims to assist couples in having children

BANGI, 5 October 2020: The queen of Malaysia Her Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Al-Mutawakkil Alallah Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj today graced the launch of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF)’s latest health withdrawal facility for fertility treatment at the EPF Learning Campus (ELC), Bangi.

The new withdrawal facility aims to assist couples who have challenges in conceiving, while reflecting the national effort to address the continuous trend in falling fertility rates and its impact on the country’s healthcare system and subsequently, our economy. Towards this end, the EPF had begun allowing eligible members to make withdrawals for fertility treatment starting from 1 September 2020.

In his welcoming speech, EPF Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ahmad Badri Zahir said: “With the Health Withdrawal – Fertility Treatment, EPF members can now withdraw from their Account 2 to fund fertility treatments that will assist them to have children. Members may also withdraw as many times as they want, subject to the availability of their savings balance in Account 2.”

“The Health Withdrawal – Fertility Treatment option is our way of supporting couples who want to attempt this treatment but face obstacles due to the high costs,” Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ahmad Badri added.

The Health Withdrawal – Fertility Treatment is an extension to the existing Health Withdrawal facility under Account 2 of members’ EPF savings, and was first announced last year during the tabling of Budget 2020.

Withdrawals under the fertility treatment option can be made for intrauterine insemination (IUI),in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Only legally married couples can apply. Members can apply on their own behalf, on behalf of their spouse, or they can also make joint applications. However, treatment can only be received at local medical institutions.

Members who wish to make the Health Withdrawal – Fertility Treatment can submit their application at any EPF branch together with supporting documents such as medical reports, marriage certificates and bill/receipt for the treatment. More information about the facility can be found at
