EPF CONFIRMS COVID-19 CASE AT KUALA LUMPUR, JALAN RAJA LAUT BRANCH

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 March 2020: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has today been informed that a member of the EPF was confirmed infected with COVID-19 and admitted for further treatment.

The member visited the Jalan Raja Laut branch on 27 February 2020 at 2.00 pm and left at 2.30 pm, and tested positive on 3 March 2020. Presently, we are unable to confirm if the member was already infected at the time of the member’s visit to our branch.

We have identified the staff who may have had contact with the member, and sent them for testing. The remaining staff of the said branch have been placed in quarantine. The EPF is working closely with the health authorities on any follow-up measures required.

We have decided to take the proactive measure of closing the branch until Friday, 13 March 2020 to conduct thorough disinfection of the affected area and its vicinity. The said branch will reopen on Monday, 16 March 2020.

The EPF wishes to reassure all members that we have initiated cleaning protocols at all branches since February to manage the risk posed by COVID-19. All counters and other surfaces are continually cleaned throughout the day. In addition, all counter staff are required to wash their hands every 30 minutes. As a further precautionary measure, members must undergo mandatory temperature checks prior to entering any EPF premise.

Meanwhile, our counters at other EPF branches will operate as usual. Unless necessary for face-to-face counter transactions, members are encouraged to perform transactions via the i-Akaun application. Members are also advised to visit the nearest healthcare provider if symptoms arise, practice good personal hygiene, and wear appropriate personal protective gear prior to visiting branch offices.

The EPF wishes to assure all staff, members, and employers that it continues to keep abreast of the latest developments of the COVID-19 outbreak and will implement any additional pre-emptive measures as necessary. The EPF sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused in the course of undertaking these measures, and will provide regular updates on the current situation.
