The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) confirms that the fire at its Petaling Jaya branch has been contained and there were no casualties. Damage was restricted mainly to the exterior of the building and some cars parked alongside the building.
Initial reports indicate the fire started on the first floor of the building at around 11.50am and was contained under 30 minutes following quick response by the Fire and Rescue Department. The EPF will be conducting a thorough investigation and work with the Fire and Rescue Department to ascertain the cause of the fire.
All EPF systems are not affected and business is operating as usual for all functions. The EPF Petaling Jaya branch will be temporarily closed and members can conduct transactions in other branches or via i-Akaun.
The EPF reassures members that their data was never in any danger of being compromised by the fire as its data servers are in a secure remote location and supported by world class backup and recovery procedures.
