When you make a nomination, you are appointing an individual or institution to receive and oversee your EPF savings in the event of your demise. By planning ahead and nominating your beneficiary early, you can protect your loved ones from unnecessary complications and keep them financially secure even after you're gone.

  • Getting started with nomination

    The nomination can be made by members by completing the EPF Form 4 and submitting it at any EPF branches nationwide, or through a new nomination application and updating nomination information via the Member's i-Account, followed by a visit to the counter for fingerprint verification.

    (Has become an EPF member before 1 August 1998)
    Nomination Form (KWSP4)
    A copy of Identification Card / MyKad / Army Identification Card  
    A copy of valid Passport  
    A copy of Identification document for each nominee*

    You may update your nomination from time to time by submitting personally a new Nomination Form (KWSP 4). The new Form KWSP 4 Form will override your earlier nomination.

Who Can You Nominate?

  • Any individual(s)
  • Amanah Raya Berhad (ARB)
 

* Nominee for Muslim members is a Wasi/Administrator to apportion member's EPF savings upon the member's death to the rightful beneficiary in accordance with Islamic Law

*If a member chooses to nominate ARB as nominee, ARB will become Administrator to ALL (100%) of the member's savings.

Understanding The Nomination Process

  • Scenario 1

    You appoint a nominee/trustee to distribute your EPF savings to the rightful heirs.

  • Scenario 2

    Member nominates two nominees, both aged 18 and above with the portions of 70% and 30% respectively. One of the nominees passes away prior to the member's demise.

  • Withdrawal application can be made at any time

  • Withdrawal application has to be submitted within a year from member's date of passing

  • The nomination is cancelled unless the nominee/ nominees reached 18 within a year
    • Member's heir may submit an application according to the procedures for withdrawal without nomination
   

If no application is made within a year

  • The nomination is cancelled
  • Member's heir may submit an application according to the procedures for withdrawal without nomination

If No Nominee Has Been Appointed

In the event a member have not nominated anyone prior to their demise, their eligible heir(s) can submit a Death Withdrawal application to the EPF offices.

Common Misconceptions About EPF Nominations

MYTH FACT
All unclaimed savings will be transferred to ARB Any unclaimed savings will remain with the EPF and will only be transferred to the Registrar of Unclaimed Monies upon Member reaching age 100
The death of one nominee invalidates the entire nomination Only the portion assigned to the deceased nominee will be invalidated
The Member's heir has to stake a claim of member's passing within three days, otherwise the savings will be automatically transferred to ARB For Muslim members only, a nomination will only be invalidated if the nominee/administrator fails to make a withdrawal application within one year from the Member’s date of decease

Revocation Of Nomination

Sometimes, unexpected events happen and alter the status of your nomination. The best way to handle these situations is to ensure you have sufficient knowledge to handle it better.
 

Your nomination made will be revoked under the following circumstances:

Muslim Members Non-Muslim Members
  1. Upon the death of the nominee(s) during the lifetime of the member
  2. By a Notice of Revocation of Nomination (KWSP 4A)
  3. Member submits subsequent Nomination Form (KWSP 4)
  4. Nominee has not reached 18 years old during the submission of Death Withdrawal made by the nominee / next of kin
  5. The nominee did not apply for Death Withdrawal within one (1) year from the date of the member's death
  6. Nomination will be REVOKED if member has made Age 55 Withdrawal (Full Withdrawal) on or before 1 February 2008
  1. Upon the death of the nominee(s) during the lifetime of the member
  2. By a Notice of Revocation of Nomination (KWSP 4A)
  3. Member submits subsequent Nomination Form (KWSP 4)
  4. Nomination will be REVOKED if member has made Age 55 Withdrawal (Full Withdrawal) on or before 1 February 2008
