Frequently Asked Questions
What is meant by Hajj Withdrawal?
Hajj Withdrawal is a facility introduced by the EPF in 2013 to help Muslim members finance basic expenses for performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. This withdrawal does not cover the full cost of the Hajj journey; instead, it is intended only to support the essential needs for the pilgrimage.
What are the improvements to the Hajj Withdrawal based on the Belanjawan Rakyat 2026 announcement?
Based on the Belanjawan Rakyat 2026 announcement, the EPF Hajj Withdrawal has been improved as follows:
- The Hajj Withdrawal limit has been increased from RM3,000 to RM10,000 starting January 2026 to help members cover part of the cost of performing Hajj, in line with the annual rise in expenses.
- Removing the requirement to check the balance in members’ Tabung Haji Savings Account, allowing members to plan more effectively before departing to Mecca.
Will Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) impose a penalty on EPF members if they withdraw at the last minute from going for Hajj?
Subject to the current conditions set by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH).
Will the savings withdrawn under the Hajj Withdrawal be entitled to dividends?
Members who make a Hajj Withdrawal before the annual dividend is declared will receive a withdrawal payment consisting of the principal savings only. Dividends for the withdrawn savings will be credited to the member’s Akaun Sejahtera after the actual dividend rate is declared.
How can members check the status of their application and payments?
EPF members can check the status of their application and payments through the EPF official channels, namely:
- KWSP i‑Akaun app or i-Akaun (Member) web portal
- EPF Contact Management Centre
- Nearest EPF office
Who is eligible to apply for the Hajj Withdrawal?
EPF members who are eligible to apply are as follows:
- Malaysian citizen
- Muslim
- Under 55 years old and have received an offer letter with ‘SELECTED’ status to perform Hajj from Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH)
- Having a savings balance in the Akaun Sejahtera
- Has never applied for Hajj Withdrawal
Is a member eligible to apply for this withdrawal if they have performed Hajj before the Hajj Withdrawal was introduced and are then selected to perform Hajj again after this withdrawal comes into effect?
Members are eligible to apply if they meet the prescribed eligibility criteria. However, the EPF Hajj Withdrawal can only be made once in a lifetime.
Is there a validity period for the ‘SELECTED’ offer letter issued by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH)?
The Hajj offer letter with ‘SELECTED’ status from Tabung Haji is only valid for the Hajj season specified in the offer letter. Members must submit their Hajj Withdrawal application within the period set by Lembaga Tabung Haji.
Why are members aged 55 and above not eligible to apply for the Hajj Withdrawal?
The Hajj Withdrawal does not apply to members aged 55 and above because this facility is specifically allocated for members under 55 years old.
However, members who have reached 55 years old, can withdraw their EPF savings at any time through the Age 55 Withdrawal, either partially or in full, according to the prescribed rules. These funds can be used to cover the cost of performing Hajj without needing to apply for the Hajj Withdrawal.
Can members make this withdrawal to help finance the Hajj expenses for their spouse, parents, or children?
No. This withdrawal is limited to the EPF member who is the prospective Hajj pilgrim only.
Can EPF members withdraw their EPF savings to cover the full cost of performing Hajj?
No. The Hajj Withdrawal is intended to cover only the basic expenses and not the full cost of performing Hajj.
Can members performing Hajj through a package apply for this withdrawal?
Yes, provided the member meets all the conditions set under the Hajj Withdrawal.
Do members who submitted a Hajj Withdrawal application before these improvements were implemented are eligible to apply for the additional amount after the new limit is announced?
No. Members who submitted a Hajj Withdrawal application before these improvements are not eligible to apply for the additional amount, as the Hajj Withdrawal is only allowed once in a lifetime. The new withdrawal limit of RM10,000 applies only to new applications made from January 2026 onwards.
How to apply for the Hajj Withdrawal and what documents are required?
Members need to visit any EPF office with the following original documents:
- Identity Card (MyKad/Police ID/Military ID)
- Offer letter with ‘SELECTED’ status from Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH)
When can members submit a Hajj Withdrawal application?
Members can submit their application once they have received an offer letter with ‘SELECTED’ status from Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) to perform Hajj for the current Hajj season.
How long does EPF take to approve the application?
A complete Hajj Withdrawal application will be processed, and payment made within no more than seven (7) working days after being received by EPF.
Is there a minimum withdrawal amount?
There is no minimum withdrawal amount set for the Hajj Withdrawal.
What is the maximum amount that members can withdraw from their EPF savings?
Starting January 2026, EPF members can withdraw a maximum of RM10,000 or the balance in their Akaun Sejahtera (whichever is lower) for the Hajj Withdrawal, subject to eligibility conditions.
Do members need to return the withdrawal amount to EPF if they cancel or postpone their Hajj pilgrimage?
Yes. If the Hajj pilgrimage is canceled or postponed, any unused Hajj Withdrawal amount must be returned to EPF by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH).
What happens if, after the EPF withdrawal is made, the savings in the Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH) account are still insufficient to cover the total Hajj costs determined by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH)?
Members are responsible for ensuring that their Tabung Haji savings are sufficient to cover the full Hajj costs as determined by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH). If the savings are insufficient, it may result in the Hajj offer being canceled and the member missing the opportunity for that season. If a member is not selected or the offer is canceled, the EPF withdrawal amount that has been made must be returned to EPF by Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH).
If a member is eligible to withdraw the maximum of RM10,000, can they apply for a lower withdrawal amount?
Members are allowed to choose their withdrawal amount. However, it is subject to the maximum limit of RM10,000 or the balance in the Akaun Sejahtera, whichever is lower.
