EPF To Host International Social Wellbeing Conference (ISWC 2021) To Bring Focus To Inequality

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 November 2021: The ninth International Social Wellbeing Conference (ISWC 2021) will convene from 23 to 24 November 2021 with the theme ‘The New Narrative: Turning the Tide on Inequality’. Jointly organised by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the Ministry of Finance, the Implementation and Coordination Unit under Prime Minister’s Office, and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the conference aims to continue creating awareness on social protection through the exchange of ideas and perspectives, and boost policy implementation, as well as inspire accountability among industry stakeholders. 

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to launch the conference, while Minister of Finance Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is expected to deliver the closing remarks for the event. ISWC 2021 will focus on the role of social protection in reducing inequality in its various forms, while highlighting the importance of addressing it to ensure an inclusive future for all. 

The two-day hybrid conference, which is organised in partnership with Maybank, BNP Paribas, BNY Mellon, and FWD Takaful Bhd will showcase keynotes and panel sessions with over 20 local and international speakers who will be sharing their insights on topics surrounding the issues of inequality which include income inequality, education and social inequality, disparities in healthcare, gender-responsive policies and the role of social protection in reducing inequality.

The conference will feature Nobel Prize Winner, Professor Joseph Stiglitz and author of ‘Mission Economy’, Mariana Mazzucato. Among other renowned speakers include New York Times Best-selling Author, Nick Vujicic; Group Vice President of Marketing of GRAB, Cheryl Goh; Executive Director at Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), Sumitra Visvanathan; and Chief Executive Officer of ProtectHealth, Dr Anas Alam Faizli.

ISWC 2021 will be open to policymakers, industry leaders, social activists, think tanks, and members of the public who are interested in making a difference and creating societal impact. Entry to the event is free of charge and is open to all, while seats are available.
