4. Automatic registration via employer contributions

Malaysian citizens and permanent residents are automatically registered when EPF receives their first contribution from their employer. This registration uses the name and identification number provided in Form KWSP 6 (Form A) and will be verified by the National Registration Department (NRD).

After successful registration, you will receive a notification containing your EPF number.

EPF account registration for non-Malaysian employees

Effective 1 October 2025, non-Malaysian employees (except domestic workers) are required to contribute to the EPF. Registration can be done through:

1. Automatic registrations

Non-Malaysian employees holding a Visitor’s Pass (Temporary Employment) or an Employment Pass will be automatically registered as EPF members. Following successful registration, employees must visit an EPF office to complete thumbprint verification and update their personal information.

2. i-Akaun (Employer)

For employees who are not automatically registered, employers can register them online via the i-Akaun (Employer) web portal

The employer must then schedule an appointment for the employee to visit an EPF office for documentation and thumbprint verification. If the registration is successful, the employee will be issued an EPF number.

3. Self-Service Terminal (SST)

Non-Malaysian employees can also register at dedicated SSTs at EPF offices. Registration can only be done during office service hours, from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The documents required are:

  • Valid passport and work permit (original and copy)
  • Completed KWSP 3 (Daftar) Form, if necessary

4. EPF office counter

Alternatively, registration can be completed at an EPF office by following these steps:

  1. Bring a valid passport and work permit (original and copy).
  2. Submit the completed KWSP 3 (Daftar) Form.
  3. Verify your identity by completing thumbprint verification at the counter.
  4. Your EPF number will be issued once registration is successful.
Note: For domestic workers, KWSP 16 Form must also be completed and submitted to the EPF office during registration.

How can I activate my i-Akaun (Member)?

Once you are registered as an EPF member, the next step is to activate your i-Akaun (Member). With i-Akaun, you get easy, secure access to your EPF savings and can manage your account conveniently at any time.

There are three ways to register and activate your i-Akaun:

1. Via the KWSP i-Akaun app

If your member registration is successfully completed using the e-KYC process, you can fully activate your i-Akaun digitally through the KWSP i-Akaun app.

2. Via the Self-Service Terminal (SST)

If you are unable to complete the e-KYC process in the KWSP i-Akaun app, the SST offers a convenient alternative. You can register and activate your i-Akaun at the same time using the SST available at any EPF office.

Click here to view the list of SST locations and their operating hours.

3. Via the counter at an EPF office

If both options above are unsuccessful, you may register manually at an EPF counter. You will receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS, which must be activated through the KWSP i-Akaun app or the i-Akaun (Member) web portal by selecting:

Account registration or activation’ → ‘Activate with OTP code received from EPF office’.

Once your account is activated using any of the methods above, you can start exploring all the features available in the mobile app or access the i-Akaun (Member) web portal with the User ID and password you created.
