How is the 2% i-Sayang contribution from the employee’s share calculated?
The 2% i-Sayang transfer is calculated by applying the formula below to the employee's total statutory contribution.
Formula:
i-Sayang transfer amount = (2% ÷ [Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate + Employee’s i-Topup Rate]) × Total Employee Contribution.
Example 1: Malaysian Citizen
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
Husband’s wages |
RM2,000 |
Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate |
11% |
Employee’s i-Topup Rate |
0% |
Total Employee Contribution |
RM220 |
Calculation: (2% ÷ [11% + 0%]) × RM220 = RM40
Example 2: Non-Malaysian Citizen
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
Husband’s wages |
RM2,000 |
Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate |
2% |
Employee’s i-Topup Rate |
0% |
Total Employee Contribution |
RM40 |
Calculation: (2% ÷ [2% + 0%]) × RM40 = RM40
i-Sayang transfer amount: RM40
How is the 2% transfer amount from the husband to the wife calculated if the husband contributes more than the statutory rate (i-Topup)?
The 2% i-Sayang transfer amount is calculated using the formula below, which accounts for both the employee's statutory contribution rate and any i-Topup contribution.
Formula:
i-Sayang transfer amount = (2% ÷ [Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate + Employee’s i-Topup Rate]) × Total Employee Contribution.
Example 1: Malaysian Citizen
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
Husband’s wages |
RM2,000 |
Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate |
11% |
Employee’s i-Topup Rate |
3% |
Total Employee Contribution |
RM280 (RM2,000 x [11%+3%]) |
Calculation: (2% ÷ [11% + 3%]) × RM280 = RM40
Example 2: Non-Malaysian Citizen
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
Husband’s wages |
RM2,000 |
Employee’s Share Statutory Contribution Rate |
2% |
Employee’s i-Topup Rate |
3% |
Total Employee Contribution |
RM100 (RM2,000 x [2%+3%]) |
Calculation: (2% ÷ [2% + 3%]) × RM100 = RM40
i-Sayang transfer amount: RM40

Husbands may also make additional contributions to the wife’s account through the voluntary contribution channel.

No. Employers can contribute as usual. EPF handles the separation automatically by transferring the relevant amount from the husband’s account to the wife’s account.

Yes. The i-Sayang contribution transfer amount is shown in both the husband’s and wife’s EPF statements and can be viewed through i-Akaun (Member).
