What is i-Saraan?
i-Saraan is a voluntary contribution facility introduced by EPF, offering self-employed members, those with no fixed incomes, and gig economy sector workers an opportunity to receive special incentives from the Government for retirement purposes, subject to the terms and conditions.
Will the i-Saraan programme continue?
The extension of the i-Saraan programme and the incentives is an initiative from the Government. Any changes to the terms and conditions will be informed time to time.
Are there any changes to the current eligibility requirements for i-Saraan registration?
There are no changes to the i-Saraan eligibility requirements, which are:-
i. Registered as an EPF member;
ii. Malaysian Citizens;
iii. Below 60 years of age;
iv. Individuals who are self-employed with no fixed income, members of the civil service in a pension service scheme and workers in the gig economy sector.
Can members who have reached the age of 55 register i-Saraan?
Yes. EPF members who are Malaysian citizens and have not reached the age of 60 can register for i-Saraan.
Can members who have reached the age of 60 register i-Saraan?
No. i-Saraan is only open to EPF members who have not reached the age of 60.
Can members who are civil service employees in a pension service scheme apply for i-Saraan?
Civil service employees who have retired and have not reached the age of 60 are eligible to register for i-Saraan.
Can members who are currently serving in the military apply for i-Saraan?
Military members who are still serving can apply for i-Saraan if they are registered as EPF members.
What is the purpose of increasing the i-Saraan's special incentive payment from RM300 to RM500 per year with a maximum lifetime special incentive (accumulated) of RM5,000 per individual?
The purpose of increasing the limit of the special incentive and introducing a maximum lifetime special incentive of RM5,000 per individual are as follows:
- Establishing a social protection network by providing guaranteed income during elderly years for all;
- Expanding the coverage of the EPF scheme to include all working-age populations, including workers in the informal sector or those with no fixed income;
- Allowing individuals to benefit a meaningful incentive for retirement;
- Encouraging members to continue saving continuously for retirement income; and
- Ensuring the guaranteed receipt of incentives for 10 years or until the member reaches the age of 60, whichever is earlier.
When does the increase in the maximum payment rate for the i-Saraan special incentive take effect?
The increase in the maximum payment rate for the i-Saraan special incentive comes into effect starting from the year 2024, based on contributions made in the year 2024.
Is the maximum lifetime limit for special incentives inclusive of contributions made in previous years?
No. The maximum lifetime limit for special incentives begins with the special incentives received starting from the year 2024.
How can i-Saraan contribution payments be made?
Members can make i-Saraan contribution payments through the following channels:-
i. i-Akaun mobile application (Member);
ii. Internet banking;
iii. Bank agent counters – BSN, Maybank, Public Bank & RHB Bank;
iv. Registered bank agent – (EB) BSN;
v. Cash payment (maximum RM500)/bank cheque/bank draft/money order/postal money at all EPF branches;
vi. Debit Card payments through Mobile Team (MT), Mini Outreach Team (MoT) & EPF branches.
What is the amount that needs to be contributed to qualify for the maximum i-Saraan special incentive of RM500 per year?
Members are eligible to receive the special incentive based on matching contribution of 15% of the total accumulated contributions for the current year made by members. To qualify for the maximum annual special incentive of RM500, members need to contribute at least RM3,334 per year.

When will the i-Saraan special incentive payments be credited to the member's EPF account?
The i-Saraan special incentive payment will be credited to the member's EPF account twice a year (subject to the receipt of special incentive payments from the government).
The special incentive payment is subject to a maximum limit of RM500 per year. A maximum lifetime special incentive limit of RM5,000 (accumulated) or reaching the age of 60, whichever comes first for each individual, is also introduced and will be considered starting from the year 2024.
Can members apply for a refund of the i-Saraan contributions that have been paid to EPF?
No. All i-Saraan contributions paid to EPF are final. Therefore, members need to ensure that payments are in order before proceeding with the transaction.
What happens if I make i-Saraan contribution after the age of 55?
All contributions received after the member reaches the age of 55 are deposited into Akaun Emas and can only be withdrawn after the member reaches the age of 60.
